Stressful week

Not a great week. Jessicat has had diarrhoea and a painful nappy rash. She is now recovering slowly, but it has been upsetting to see her in discomfort. And to add to our woes, yesterday, I had my handbag snatched in Tesco's car park. That has led to much frantic phoning round to cancel and replace essential cards and items. It's all things that can be replaced, with the possible exeption of my diary, where I had recorded so many pivotal moments of Jess's first year.

Still, on the upside, we finally caught the mouse last night. No more unwelcome guests here! As Dave said, with the snap of the trap, and on the B of the Bang, our luck changed....

I can't believe that 2 weeks have gone past since my last comment. It has all been a little frantic as Val's post testifies. I was sick to the teeth when Val had her bag stolen. I went looking for the bag (and possibly the perpetrators of the crime as well) to no avail. Fortunately we received a phone call yesterday to say that the bag had been found with the non-valuable (in money terms) items inside. That means we have the diary back.

So the theory of the snap of the trap changing our luck seems to be holding firm (touch wood!).

I have finished my 2nd John Connolly book 'The White Road'. This is one of his U.S. (Maine) private detective novels. Definitely a page turner and well crafted and written. His crime novels appear to be pretty dark affairs if this book is anything to go by. I like the noir elements and undercurrent of menace and magic. I have to say that I preferred 'The Book of Lost Things' but I realise I might be going against the grain judging by customer reviews on Amazon! It's probably because most people have read his crime novels first and 'The Book of Lost Things' appears as quite a departure.

I am off to the cinema tonight for the first time since Jess arrived. Not sure what to see as there doesn't seem to be much about for my tastes at present but it will be nice to sit in front of a big screen again and shout at people making calls on their mobile phones!

As for books, my next book is likely to be by Jeffery Deaver (borrowed from a colleague). I am enjoying reading mirror ending books to Jess (Peekaboo etc) and she particularly enjoys it if we drop something on the floor and pick it up....several times! For some reason this is hilarious! See, I always said that slapstick and not sarcasm is the lowest form of wit (in intellectual development terms anyway!).

One last thing - it was good to see England beat the West Indies 3-0 in a four test series. Shame they were so poor in comparison to previous West Indies touring teams. I fear that we are still some way off beating Australia again and I think that India will provide a sterner test this summer! I have to get one sporting comment on the blog...you never know Jess might show an interest in years to come?!
